Sametime Server 3.0 Windows NT/2000

I am trying to set up a SIP connection between two organizations. I have installed all of the software, configured according to the readme, and can not get the connection to work. The problem is within the SIP connector and the reply address it creates. Instead of a reply address of username@example.com, it formats as username@dotted.decimal.ip.address, and uses the internal, non routable ip address (10.10.x.x). The other SIP COnnector has no idea how to return a reply.

Where I use example.com, that is in place of the domain name of the other company. Acme.com is in place of my company domain name

The details
Sametime server config:
windows 2000, SP3
Domino 5.0.11
Sametime 3.0, SP1
internal (non-routable) ip address of 10.10.x.x

SIP Connector config:
Windows 2000, SP3
SIP Connector installed from Sametime 3.0, SP1
two nic cards, one with a public, routable IP address and another with a 10.10.x.x address

Verification of SIP configuration:
I have been through the SIPGateway_Readme.txt thoroughly.
I have created and/or modifed the 4 documents refered to that are located in stconfig.nsf

Community gateway doc is set to True and True

In the Extern Community doc:
Community = Example
Domains = example.com
DNS = sip.example.com (this is not registered in DNS, but I have added this to the hosts files on both machines)

In the Community Connector doc
Connector name = AcmeSip
IP = blank and 10.10.x.x and public ip address (I've tried all three)

In the Community Connectivity doc
I put the 10.10.x.x address of my SIP connector in the CommunityTrustedIPs field

Here's what it can do:
The ST connector service is running on the SIP connector, meaning that it will connect to the sametime server through port 1516 and retrieve its configuration.
The other sip gateway can telnet to port 5060 on sip.acme.com (once again in hosts files because these are not registered host names)
I can telnet to port 5060 of sip.example.com (the other organization's sip connectory, still through hosts file)

While telnetted to the other SIP connectory, I can see the problem. The contact line contains the 10.10.x.x ip address instead of the public ip addres or the host name. Below is the example clipped from ietf.org, RFC 3261. In the Contact line, instead of alice@pc33.atlanta.com, I am seeing usrname@10.10.x.x. The other SIP Connector has no way of routing information back to my SIP Connector. Where does the SIP Connector pick up this information? How can I change it? I tried changing the binding order of the two nic cards, placing the public IP card first, but this did not help. I tried changing the IP address in the Community Connectivity document in stconfig, but this did not appear to help.
